Events
In addition to the numerous open mic nights and poetry slams I performed in during my undergraduate years, here are some events I have taken part in as a PhD student.
Conferences & Readings
April 8, 2023 — DI/CON: Writing on the Verge @ California State University, San Marcos, 8th Annual Arts and Humanities Graduate Conference. Here, I performed a reading of my poetic sequence “Baraye,” comprising “Zan,” “Zendegi,” and “Azadi,” as work of writing that speaks in solidarity with Iranian women.
June 28-30, 2023 — Literary Landscapes: Forms of Knowledge in the Humanities @ Sorbonne Université, Paris, 21st International Conference on New Directions in the Humanities. Here, I presented a paper that analyzes the aesthetics of poetry: “Aesthemetry: Methods of Theorizing and Quantizing Beauty in Poetry.”
July 15, 2023 — Great Writing International Creative Writing Conference @ University College London. Here, I performed readings of poems from my manuscript entitled, Hinterland: “Semolina” and “Bedlam Cry,” which serve as narratives that elucidate my experiences with being bipolar, with psychosis, and with hospitalization.
